High-waisted, wide-leg jeans are shaping up as fall's big trend. 'It's a different look, people are so excited because it's opposite of the skinny. The trick with wide-legs is to wear them in a way that doesn't invite too many Marcia Brady comparisons. Start by selecting jeans in a solid denim color that doesn't scream ''retro.'' A darker wash is anyway easier to wear, pair your denim with a streamlined top - some have gone so far as to bring back that early-90s staple, jeans - the bodysuit - and finish with stacked heels for a look that's more glamor than goody-two-shoes.
Whatever you do, don't pair anything high-waisted with a tunic top; the bulge that will result from tucking in so much fabric will ruin your jeans' lanky lines.
And while many high-fashion types have moved on, retailers aren't about to give up on the much-maligned skinny jean. It's still very popular and you can still see it being sold at all jeans - denim stores around.
If you're a fan of the silhouette, rethink it for fall by supplementing your dark-blue and black pairs with saturated, more unusual shades. Rich primary hues and sophisticated shades of plum, gray and chocolate are more wearable ways to go.
Then follow the two basic rules of skinny: a blouse top and shoes with some height.
