Sure, I have a reputation to uphold. Given that I'm obliged to deal with every single guy who wants to get into our club, it's hardly surprising that I rarely summon up a smile, appearing to stare frostily into the anxious, milling crowd. But I'm human, if you pass muster at my venue, then I'm quite likely to sneak a peek at your derrière as you pass by. Hey, what's a girl to do?
And it's here that the right pair of jeans is going to lift your odds the next time you attempt to get into my club. So take a tip from a girl who's checked out her share of jeans-clad butts: it doesn't matter whether you're wearing your lucky jocks or not, if you don't get the jeans right, you'll seriously dent your chances with the fairer sex.
Saggy-bottoms are out – give me a bum I can sink my nails into – and the wrong belt will limit your pulling power. For the majority of you, jeans are the most valuable player in your wardrobe. This isn't because they're the priciest piece or even the best-looking – it's their versatility that has you hooked.
This doesn't mean you have to fear anything with a bit of detail – thankfully, most of you have cottoned onto the fact that your jeans can pack a bit of extra sizzle – but classic, blue jeans remain the most adaptable article of clothing you can own.Which brings me to your first denim rule: don't overcook it. Look for simple and timeless styles.
Denim in faded, rusty colors or dirty blues will turn my head faster than your regular blues and are still subtle enough to stand the test of time. For the latest look, seek out a pair in rich-indigo blue or, if you can find it, tough, untreated denim. And I'll tell you this only once – leave the over-the-top, graffiti-style patterns for your T-shirts.
Most importantly, take your time when buying jeans and don't be afraid to try on half-a-dozen pairs or more. Make the shop staff work for their money. Unlike me, they're not paid to just stand there and look good. If you rush it, you'll be settling for second-best. In which case, the loser will be you.
